Common Objection to the Christian Faith

Some of these questions/ objections are asked with a sincere heart, honest, genuine, and free from pretense. Others ask as a smokescreen to cover underlying issues (a sin, a past hurt, unforgiven hurt in the past). The answer is the same, no matter the motive of the question/ objection.

1) If God created the universe, who created God?

The Bible teaches that God operates and exists beyond the universe we live in. This means that God has access to more than one time dimension. God also has access extra dimensions of space, more than the ones in our universe. As such, God has no beginning and no need to be created.

2) Problem of Evil and Suffering: How an all-powerful, all-loving, and all-knowing God can coexist with the immense pain, tragedy, and evil present in the world?

Naturalism has no explanation for this issue. Humans are not like any other life form on Earth. Only humans show a level of evil that is far beyond any natural explanation. The evil is done to other humans (even strangers), animals, and even plants. Only the Bible accurately explains this high level of evil; humans are the only life form on Earth that is a spiritual life form, able to do vast evil and also vast good, called altruism. The Bible explains the human heart as a dark place, bent on evil. Why are humans given this freedom to choose evil or good? The Bible explains that only with this freedom can humans have great love. A robot programmed to say "I love you" means nothing. A human who has freedom, who says and shows "I love you", has weight and meaning. In this life, each person is given the opportunity to turn to the Creator and say thank you, "I love you" or reject the Creator. See Pain and Suffering page and God of the Bible page

3) Is science in conflict with the Christian faith and the Bible? No, if you study correctly.

Some Christians in the past and today hold to an incorrect understanding or interpretation of the Bible that puts it into conflict with science. Past conflict was placing the Earth at the center of the solar system (a view both Christians and science held at times). When science shifted to the sun as the center, some Christians did not return to the Bible to see whether their interpretation was correct as soon as they should. Flat earth was common in the past among Christians and scientists, and now among non-believers. The current wrong interpretation of the Bible is Young Earth creationism, claiming the days in the opening of the Bible are 24 hours, when the Bible has never taught this. 4) Has science proved evolution to be true and thus the Bible false? No.

Evolution, a very complex topic, has there are different types of Evolution. For the origins of life, there is less evidence for chemical evolution each year. See Life page

5) There is no evidence for God. Not true.

This bold claim is made by the new Atheistic materialism worldview. We have found that when the evidence is given (much of it is on this website), the evidence is rejected without a discussion, or the topic is changed. We have yet to have them answer the questions on the Big Question of Life page. There is more than enough evidence for the God of the Bible. 6) A loving God wouldn’t send people to Hell. Hell in light of God's Love? God does not send anyone to Hell.

1 Timothy 2:4 God "who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."

Only humans with 100% free will can have great love. This free will means humans are free to accept God's Love and forgiveness or reject it. If one rejects God's Love and forgiveness, they will have their wish to be judged on their works or deeds. Bible teaches that no amount of good works or deeds or way of living is good enough to get you to a new life with God (new creation). Hell has levels of restraints, based on how bad or evil one is; a "good" person will need fewer restraints than evil persons. We used this same system in the US prison system: Low Security, Minimum Security, High Security, and solitary confinement. These prisoners are judged and given the correct restraints. Thus hell is a sign of God's love for those that rejected him. The Bible teaches that those in Hell may say it is not a nice place, but if asked, "Do you want to spend forever with God and His followers?", they would say no; I rejected this in life on earth, and they would not change their minds. The Bible also teaches there is a gulf between the living and the dead that can not be crossed. 2 Peter 3:9: " The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." God sends no one anywhere, you are free to pick your afterlife.

7) Trinity Means Three Gods (Or Jesus is not God). No, this paradox is not a contradiction. See Trinity page.

Trinity is the term designating one God in three persons. Although the word "Trinity" is not in the Bible, "the Trinity" has been used to designate the one God self-revealed in Scripture as: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It signifies that within the one essence of God, we have three "persons" who are neither three gods on the one side, nor three parts or modes of God on the other, but coequally and coeternally God. The Bible teaches that God operates and exists beyond the universe we live in. This means that God has access to more than one time dimension. God also has access to extra dimensions or space, more than the ones in our universe. This paradox: 1 + 1 + 1 = 1 is solved by adding extra dimensions of space and time. 8) Christianity is just one of many religions. While true, it is good to compare religions and see which is true.

The Bible tells everyone to check whether its message is true. "Test everything; hold fast what is good" 1 Thessalonians 5:21, 51 CE (AD)

ALL the other religions teach salvation (getting to an afterlife) is through good works, and they have a list of works (a way of living) to get there. Only the Bible teaches that no amount of good works or deeds or way of living is good enough to get you to a new life with God (gods). Also, all the other gods can be understood in the dimensions of this universe; that is evidence that they are man-made gods. The Space-time theorem proves that the creator of this universe must be beyond this universe and in this universe. 9) What about those who’ve never heard about Jesus? The Bible answers this question clearly; it is a good question.

God reaches out to everyone. All past, present, and future individuals will have a chance to understand God's offer and respond. 1) Jesus personally knocks at the heart of every person who has ever lived (past, present, and future): Revelation 3:20 "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat (fellowship) with that person, and they with me." (Each person is given the opportunity (100% free will) to open the door, or reject the request. See John 3:36.) 2) God's creation (all of nature) declares God's Divine Nature, so all know and are without excuse. Romans 1:19-20. 3) The Night Sky is one of the tools God uses to teach about Himself: Psalm 19:1-4. 4) The animals were given by God to teach us about Him. Job 12:7-8. 5) If one receives God's light (understanding and knowledge), God will give one more light (understanding and knowledge). 7) God's Light has gone out into the whole world. John 1:9. 8) Being right before God has always been about faith in God, who created everything. See What about those that never heard? page

10) The Bible is filled with errors. (The Bible is Corrupted) No. where?

This bold claim is made by the new Atheistic materialism worldview and many others. When asked for an example, the reply is things the Bible does not teach, or things that some Christians teach that are not in the Bible. Other times it is a number-rounding issue, like pi in the Bible is 3, not 3.14. Young Earth Creationism is not in the Bible; it was stated in the 1900s by George McCready Price and Ellen G. White. 11) Christian Hypocrisy. The Church is full of hypocrites. If Christians are not perfect, then can their faith be true?

Christians are human and sinners; this is the Bible's teaching. The Bible teaches we need to compare our lives to Jesus Christ, not others. God does not judge on a scale of good vs bad. He will judge us by the standard Jesus laid out. On this scale, we all fail; this is the Bible's message. If we all fail, then who can be saved, that is, enter heaven, the new creation? God offers forgiveness for every offense (sin) done against Him and others; this is the message of the Bible. With that said Christian, with their faith in God and Jesus Christ, have changed the world. It was Christians who ended slavery, started hospitals, started schools/universities, and gave women rights (lacking in Islam, Hinduism, and others). Christianity has profoundly shaped education by promoting universal literacy, founding many of the world’s earliest universities, and developing a holistic approach to mind, body, and spirit. It emphasizes integrating faith with academics, fostering moral character, and, particularly through Reformation-era efforts, encouraging literacy to enable independent reading of Scripture. Christianity promoted Education For Everyone. The Christian roots of literacy are deep. Christianity profoundly shaped the Renaissance by acting as the primary patron of the arts and science. Christianity fundamentally shaped Western medicine by introducing the concept of universal charity, which spurred the creation of hospitals and established nursing as a noble profession. 12) Was Jesus Christ was only a great moral teacher? Jesus is Not God. No.

Jesus claimed during his time here on earth that He was the Son of God, God in the flesh, just as the Prophet Isiah had foretold 700 years before His birth.

Isaiah 9:6: " For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

John 10:36 "what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?"

Jesus regularly accepted worship and confessions from his disciples, such as Peter's declaration in Matthew 16:16-17,

13) Being a good person is all that really matters. I’m a Good Person, not a sinner. No one is good enough.

Trusting in your good deeds and comparing oneself to others is the great error. God judges not only one's actions but also all of one's thoughts and motives. In this case, no one is good enough to be in the presence of a Holy God who has no sin, errors, or faults. God offers forgiveness that one can take free of cost. It is a substitutionary act: Jesus takes all your faults (sins) and, in return, gives you impunity- his righteousness. Asking to be judged by one's actions, thoughts, and motives guarantees one will be separated from God. God is "not willing that any should perish" 2 Peter 3:9. Meaning God desires everyone to turn away from sin and come to repentance rather than face separation from God. Ephesians 2:8-9: " For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." See God of Bible page

14) I’m Spiritual, Not Religious.

Many people make this statement after turning to New Age teachings. Note: Jesus did offer religion; he had very harsh words for the religious people of his day, the Pharisees. New Age is popular as it offers spirituality with no morals (you create your own reality). New Age is based on Hinduism, Buddhism, and Zen teachings (removing the caste system, many gods, and other items that are repulsive to the West). This leads to a do-what-you-want approach in spirituality. While many do not know the origins of their New Age spirituality, the damage is still there: faith in self, magical crystals, and a host of other things that will take one away from knowing the loving Creator of the universe. Moral relativism gives license for people to be evil; it is one of the other damages of the New Age movement. See New Age and, New Age 2

15) It doesn't matter what you believe because all religions are basically the same. No. Made by those who have not studied or even looked.

16) What about the atrocities Christians have committed? Which ones? Some claims are false, others are exaggerated, some are true.

Comparing Christians / Christianity against all other worldviews shows that Christianity is by far the best. The atheistic materialistic worldview, as found in all communist nations, has killed over 170 million people over the globe. If your view is that humans are not made in the image of God, then you have no problem killing any of them you think are in your way. The killings are mostly in the Soviet Union, China, Cambodia, Laos, and more. This claim normally cites the Crusades. The Crusades were about being able to visit and worship in the Holy Land. So while the Crusaders were Christian, the war was about land (with about 1 million deaths). This claim also cites the Spanish Inquisition. The Spanish Inquisition was a judicial institution established in 1478 by the Catholic Monarchs, King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella I of Castile, to maintain Catholic orthodoxy and consolidate royal power. So this was evil: 3,000 executions over 350 years, but it was more about royal power than Christian faith. Many of the other examples are battles over power, not faith. Over 32 million have been killed by Islam's quest.

17) Saying that Jesus is the only way to God is narrow-minded. Not if the evidence shows He is who He says He is and the Bible is true.

This is about whether the claims about the Bible and Jesus are true. All anyone needs to do is start with the Bible's creation account and compare it with all other religions. Then look at the prediction of the coming of Jesus the Messiah. Then look at the resurrection of Jesus Christ. These three items should give anyone enough evidence to see what is from God/The Creator and what is from man-made gods. See the Religions page and Worldview page for more.

18) The Bible is an unreliable set of documents that cannot be trusted. Both the Old Testament and New Testament have more than enough evidence to show they are a reliable set of documents. See: Bible, The Bible, Bible-true, Bible Terms, Bible Study, Bible overview page

19) There is no evidence that Jesus Christ arose from the dead. Jesus was not crucified and raised from the dead. There is more than enough evidence. See resurrection page

The resurrection of Jesus Christ has changed more lives than anyone else has. No one ever survived a Roman crucifixion. There are eyewitness testimonies from those who saw the risen Jesus. The sudden change in the apostles, who went from hiding to boldly proclaiming the resurrection, is often cited as evidence. Many faced martyrdom for this testimony. The conversion of Skeptics. The Empty Tomb: The inability to produce the body was a fatal flaw in the arguments of the early Jewish and Roman authorities. A few fishermen could not have overpowered Roman power. The early church's rapid growth was due to the many Eyewitness Testimonies. Jesus is still changing life for the better. See the Testimonies page.

20) Christianity is just a crutch for the weak and helpless. History does not show this. Faith is reasonable. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 "but test all things; hold on to what is good"

Prominent Christian figures like" Isaac Newton, Nicolaus Copernicus, Johannes Kepler, Robert Boyle, Francis Bacon, Paracelsus, Leonardo da Vinci, Andreas Vesalius, William Gilbert, Luca Pacioli, John Napier, Gerolamo Cardano, François d'Aguilon, Petrus Apianus, Gemma Frisius, Marin Getaldić, Guidobaldo del Monte, Pedro Nunes, William Oughtred, Luca Pacioli, Robert Recorde, Niccolò Fontana Tartaglia, Rene Descartes, Ambroise Paré, William Harvey, Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, Nicolas Malebranche, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, and Galileo believed that studying the natural world was a way to understand God, with many viewing science as a "Christian service. (Note: Galileo's problems were due to breaking a promise to the Pope, lying to him about his book before writing it.) Why? 1) Science requires there to be truth. The Bible teaches that truth is of utmost importance. 2) The truth must be understandable, the Bible teaches that truth is knowable, and one should seek it. 3) Knowing and seeking truth must be seen as good (no matter where it takes you). 3) You must believe that there is such a thing as good. ONLY the Bible and Biblical Christianity taught these facts before Science: Truth, knowledge, and good should be sought after. America's Founding Fathers belonged to traditional Protestant Christian denominations. George Washington was a dedicated member of the Church who held a private, practical Christian faith centered on an active God he frequently called "Providence".

21) That’s Right for You but Not for Me. Truth is an objective reality that does not change based on personal feelings, opinions, or cultural backgrounds.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. This Truth, is not based on personal feelings, opinions, or cultural backgrounds, but on evidence. The Testimonies page shows how this is true. In John 5:46, Jesus stated that if people truly believed Moses and the other writings, they would also believe in Him, because those writings pointed directly to His mission as the Messiah.

22) Religion has caused more war deaths than anything in history. Not True:

According to the Encyclopedia of Wars, only 9% of wars were religious wars. And most of the 9% were caused by Islamic conquest. That means that 91% of the wars throughout history were political wars—such as the First World War, the Second World War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, etc. Most deaths are from Atheists. Atheist have killed up to 170 million in the Soviet Union, China, Cambodia, Laos and more. Nazi SS were not Christians; leaders taught an Aryan religion. SS leaders rejected traditional Christianity and pushed a racialized, anti-Christian worldview, while nearly 70% of SS officers officially left their Christian churches. Hitler wanted the pope killed. Crusades were about having the ability to visit and worship in the Holy Land. So while the Crusaders were Christian, the war was about land.

23) The Bible supports slavery. No, the Bible teaches that Slavery is wrong.

Exodus 21:16, Deuteronomy 24:7, 1 Timothy 1:10, Philemon 1:15-16, Exodus 21:2, Deuteronomy 15:12, Leviticus 25:10, Jeremiah 34:9-10, Galatians 3:28. While all these verses write about how slavery is wrong, both the Old and New Testaments also write about how masters and slaves are to behave, as they lived in a culture that had slaves. The Bible also writes about those who voluntarily put themselves into indentured servitude, also called bondservants or voluntary slaves. A bondservant often enters service to pay debts, whereas a slave is someone held in forced, permanent ownership with few rights. It was Christians who ended slavery in the UK (William Wilberforce) and the USA (Christian abolitionists, started by ones like John Brown, then the Civil War). See Image of God.
